Posted on 07/17/2023
July 17, 2023, Allentown, PA – The Allentown School District Foundation (ASDF) awarded senior scholarships to 60 students who graduated from William Allen High School, Louis E. Dieruff High School, Building 21 High School and the Lehigh Career and Technical Institute (LCTI). This year is the ninth year that graduating students were awarded senior scholarships through the Foundation. A total of $65,789 was distributed to 2023 graduates, and more than $30,000 has been given to students who received four-year scholarships in previous years.

The endowed and expendable scholarships awarded by the
Foundation are made possible by generous donors looking to recognize student achievement and to honor or memorialize individuals who have contributed to the school district and the Allentown community in various ways. The high school guidance teams select the recipients.

This is the first year that the James P. Musselman Scholarship and the Kurt D. Zwikl Memorial Scholarship are being awarded to William Allen High School graduates. The awards honor the memory of Mr. Musselman, a longtime art teacher; and Mr. Zwikl, a 1967 graduate of WAHS who became the youngest ever member of the PA House of Representatives in 1973. Also awarded for the first time is the Anne and Ed Davis Scholarship for students attending Muhlenberg College, Kutztown or East Stroudsburg Universities.

The renewed WAHS Class of 1963 Scholarship was replenished by members of the class celebrating their 60th Class Reunion in July 2023. An anonymous donor has offered to match all class donations to this award received in the next week.

Contributions to existing scholarships and the creation of new scholarships are always welcomed to continue support for students pursuing additional education. The scholarships and recipients are listed below with endowed scholarships in blue.
