ASD Foundation Volunteer Reading Program Rated Valuable by Volunteers
Posted on 11/07/2018

The 2017 – 2018 Volunteer Reading Program was given positive ratings by volunteers, as indicated on their evaluation surveys. The vast majority of survey respondents considered the program “worthwhile,” and most found their experiences engaging. Others noted the experience was a positive one for all involved. Seventy-one volunteers were canvassed to respond to the evaluation survey.

“The Volunteer Reading Program is at the core of the Foundation’s mission to provide enriched educational experiences for ASD students,” says Anthony M. Muir, Esq., Vice President of the Allentown School District Foundation. “This program is critical to our students who need to be able to read on grade level by grade 3 so that they can read to learn in their other important subjects such as math, history and science.”

On a five-point Lickert scale, the program was considered “worthwhile” with an average rating of 4.8. Allentown School District staff and teachers were considered helpful to the volunteers working in their classrooms, with an average rating of 4.7.

For this school year, the Foundation has a goal of recruiting more than 100 reading volunteers. The next training session is planned for December 13, 2018, at 2:00 pm, at Jackson Early Childhood Center.
