Posted on 10/17/2018

The Allentown School District Foundation announced today that it was recently awarded a $116,000 grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF), the grant program supported by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association designed to promote youth baseball and softball participation.  The grant will provide funding for renovations at the William Allen High School baseball and softball fields.

Allentown School District offers baseball and softball programs and works with local summer programs including American Legion, Connie Mack, and the Lehigh Valley RBI program.  The BTF grant will provide funding for renovation of the baseball field playing surface, dugouts, and backstop and for the renovation of the softball field dugouts.  Construction is scheduled to begin this month for completion by November 2018.

“Starting with the 2019 season, the William Allen Canary Baseball Team will be sporting an entirely new image on the playing field, thanks to the financial support of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund,” says Rob Leskosky, William Allen High School baseball coach. “Our student players are especially excited to be connected to BTF. The new infield, playing surface, dugouts, batting cages, backstop, scoreboard, fencing and well… just about everything will be new! We are grateful.”

”The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is honored to support the growing youth baseball and softball in Allentown,” said Cathy Bradley, Executive Director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. “On behalf of Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, we thank the Allentown School District and its partners for providing quality programs and facilities to young players.  It’s much-needed projects like this that ensure a fun, safe experience for kids to learn and play the game.”

The Allentown School District Foundation accepts in-kind and monetary contributions for school programs and facilities. Those interested in donating to the project may contact Susan L. Williams at 484-765-4093.
