Kurt D. Zwikl Memorial Scholarship to be Awarded in 2023
[Allentown, PA, April 24, 2023]: The first recipient of the Kurt D. Zwikl Memorial Scholarship will be named next month. This scholarship as established by family and friends to honor the memory of Kurt D. Zwikl, respected and admired civic, community, and business leader as well as beloved friend, and a devoted and beloved father and grandfather.
Zwikl was a 1967 graduate of William Allen High School who became the youngest ever member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives at age 24 when he was elected in 1973. He later had a career in banking, was appointed Chairman of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and also served as Executive Director of the Schuylkill River National & State Heritage Area. Mr. Zwikl joined the ASD Foundation board of directors in 2015 and served as president from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2019.
This scholarship is funded through gifts from his many friends and family members. The recipient will be a graduating William Allen HS senior who excels in the study of history and shows interest in a career of public service. The award will be $500 and will be awarded to one student per year until the funds are expended.
Students should contact their guidance counselor to apply for this and other ASD Foundation scholarships. The ASDF awards over $50,000 in scholarships each year.
